BC03 - (Deadly-Mushroom)

VICTORIA. X-18s. A critical-care doctor is warning against eating a mushroom that looks like an edible variety but is actually deadly. Doctor Omar Ahmad (AH'-mid), head of critical care and emergency medicine for Island Health, says the so-called death cap mushroom is responsible for 90 per cent of the world's mushroom-related fatalities and is spreading along the Pacific coast of North America. He says patients typically start having abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhea six to 12 hours after eating the death cap but then appear to be getting better as liver damage continues.
