The Blue Ribbon Commission on Pennsylvania's Election Security study published in January debunked the myth that our voting machines are secure because they are not connected to the internet (Feb. 11, "Report Finds Paper Ballots are the Future of Election Security"). However, skeptics have a good way to confirm or disprove it.

At no cost to local government, the Department of Homeland Security provides services to secure our elections. It's like getting an annual physical from your doctor. The state of Pennsylvania did it at the state level. All 67 counties should, too. Why won't Allegheny County get a physical on its election security? It's free; do it.

Why focus on security of our existing machines when we hope to get new ones?
