'Happy' Gundogan Eases Fears He Is Set to Leave City

ILKAY Gundogan has calmed City fears that he may be preparing to run down his contract and leave for nothing next year.

The Germany international said recently that he was in no rush to sign a new deal and could even let his old one expire in 2020 before starting talks.

City want to tie him down long before that, but manager Pep Guardiola revealed on Friday that there is a fear that the midfielder is not entirely happy.

"We want him to extend the contract right now," said Guardiola.

"But if he doesn't want to, we cannot do anything else."

Gundogan has stood in for injured Fernandinho in the last two games, playing his part in 1-0 wins over West Ham and Bouremouth. After the win at the Vitality Stadium, Gundogan played down the idea that his reticence to sign is a bad sign. …
