Ferdinand: Foden May Have to Leave City for Game Time

CITY'S midfield prodigy Phil Foden may have to follow in the footsteps of Jadon Sancho if he is to advance his career, according to Rio Ferdinand.

Foden is one of English football's most highly rated starlets and at just 18 years of age he is a permanent member of Pep Guardiola's first team squad, but he is yet to start a Premier League game for City.

Regardless, the Stockport-born midfielder has still appeared 21 times this season in all competitions and has scored five goals, though Ferdinand feels that Foden may one day be forced to leave City in the hunt of first team football.

"He's got great potential, but at the end of the day he needs game time," the United legend said.

"He's not going to get that at Manchester City. Jadon Sancho didn't, so that's why he left.

"He demanded regular football and decided to go to Borussia Dortmund. …
