THE RFL has confirmed the appointment of Wayne Bennett as the new England head coach - and opened the door for a domestic coach to assist him.

Brisbane Broncos boss Bennett - the most successful coach of the modern era - has been appointed on a two-year deal and will combine leading the national side into the 2016 Four Nations and 2017 World Cup with his day-to-day duties in the NRL.

"I am very excited by the challenge of taking England on to the next level," said the seventime NRL Grand Final-winning coach.

"From what I have seen I have been impressed by the ambition and energy demonstrated by the team and I look forward to working with a group of players that I believe have what it takes to succeed on the international stage."

Bennett will travel to the UK later this month, with his side set to take on Wigan Warriors in the World Club Series. …
