Moyes Wanted Gareth but Welshman Baled

FORMER United manager David Moyes has said he failed to lure Gareth Bale to the club in 2013 because the Welshman had his heart set on a transfer to Real Madrid.

The Reds were linked with a host of big names during Moyes' only summer in charge of United, with the likes of Bale, Cesc Fabregas, Thiago Alcantara and Cristiano Ronaldo all mooted as potential targets.

And now Moyes has come out and confirmed his desire to take Bale to United six years ago.

"I wanted him to be my first signing at Manchester United," Moyes said over the weekend. "We came close, spoke to him, but he had his heart set on Real Madrid and we couldn't talk him out of it.' "It was a real disappointment because I saw him as a Manchester United player.

"He carries himself well, I think he's a terrific player. …
