WHO ARE THEY? A brilliant new 'supergroup' with roots in Manchester, but with a strong international pedigree.

Comprising the two newest members of New Order (Tom Chapman and Phil Cunningham), and two members of veteran American rockers Devo (Josh Hager and Jeff Friedl), ShadowParty first came together when those four musicians, during downtime from their main bands, decided to start collaborating.

Far from an indulgent, shortterm side-project, however, ShadowParty sound like the substantial beginnings of something very special.

As you'd expect, the four-piece pull from their collective experience - synth-pop and postpunk - but there's also a determination to strike out into new sonic territory.

Recorded in Manchester, Los Angeles and Boston, the band's brilliant self-titled LP dabbles with Kraftwerk-inspired electronics, lush orchestration and brooding, gloom-pop atmospherics, while making room for special guests including vocalist Denise Johnson and Verve guitarist Nick McCabe. …
