Ex-councilman to run for county executive

Former Allegheny County Councilman Matt Drozd launched his candidacy for county executive with a press conference Thursday ahead of the Lincoln Dinner for the Allegheny County Republican Committee.

Mr. Drozd, a Republican from Ross, served on county council from 2005 to 2013, when he was defeated by a primary challenger. In his announcement, he referred to current County Executive Rich Fitzgerald, a Democrat, as a "caretaker during his eight-year term, lacking the vision to lead our county into becoming a premier showcase among other counties throughout our state and country."

In an interview with the Post-Gazette, Mr. Drozd will focus on cutting taxes.On county council, he fought for reductions in property and drink taxes. …
