VANCOUVER. x-07s. A retired chief justice of the Supreme Court of Canada has been tapped to investigate allegations of spending abuses at the B-C legislature. N-D-P house leader Mike Farnworth says Beverley McLachlin will review the reports regarding the allegations and is expected to present a final report by May 3rd. Farnworth says McLachlin -- who led Canada's highest court for 17 years -- topped every list of potential investigators.

TAG: Sergeant-at-arms Gary Lenz and Clerk Craig James have been suspended with pay since November. They strenuously deny allegations that they may have engaged in inappropriate spending of legislature funds.
