P13 - (Trudeau-TB-Apology) IQALUIT. x-19s. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau travelled to Iqaluit today where he formally apologized for the way past governments treated Inuit with tuberculosis in the 1940s through the 1960s. Many were taken south without their consent for treatment and many of those who died were buried without their families knowing what happened. Trudeau says while we learn from the past we must look to the future, saying T-B is preventable and curable and it doesn't have to cost lives. ("..in unacceptable.") (SOURCE:The Canadian Press)

TAG: Inuit leader Natan Obed -- president of Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami -- says the mistreatment of Inuit during the T-B outbreaks was a "massive human rights failure" from the government of Canada.
