PEP Guardiola says he would like Ilkay Gundogan to sign a new contract at City, but would be prepared to allow the midfielder to leave if he wants to.

The German's contract runs until the summer of 2020 but, despite the Blues' intent to secure him to a new deal, Gundogan has stated he may consider seeing out his deal before discussing his future.

The 28-year-old, who made his 37th appearance for the Blues this season in Saturday's 3-1 win against Watford, has deputised for the injured Fernandinho at the base of City's midfield in recent weeks.

The club have tied down Raheem Sterling and Aymeric Laporte to new contracts this season and Guardiola was rueful that Gundogan has not been as keen as the duo to agree new terms.

"We would like to but it depends on the club and him so I don't know," the City boss. …
