First Female Fighter Pilot and St. Louis Native Advised Brie Larson for Captain Marvel

A St. Louis native and decorated Air Force pilot worked with the star of the superhero movie "Captain Marvel" to nail her fighter pilot authenticity.

Brig. Gen. Jeannie Leavitt, a 1985 Bishop DuBourg High School graduate and the first female fighter pilot in the Air Force, advised actress Brie Larson as the movie was being shot.

"Captain Marvel" was released nationally on Friday, International Women's Day. The movie tells the story of Air Force pilot Carol Danvers, who gains superhuman powers after an explosion.

In order to play the role authentically, Larson consulted with Leavitt and other female fighter pilots at Nellis Air Force Base near Las Vegas.

"She talked with a number of our female fighter pilots and wanted to get the details correct," Leavitt said in an article from the Department of Defense. …
