Drivers Set for End of Roadworks Woe

THIS week marks the 'beginning of the end' of works on Regent Road. But with a lane closed on one of the busiest sections, brace yourselves for delays.

The works form part of Manchester and Salford Inner Relief Route improvement scheme, to reduce traffic along the route. Work started yesterday at the junction with the northern section of Oldfield Road. Traffic started building from 7am.

The worst part of the road is around the junction of Oldfield Road and Regent Road, with stopstart traffic as lanes merge.

The situation eases within a quarter of a mile of the Oldfield Road junction. Coun Angeliki Stogia, said: "The resurfacing of Regent Road marks the beginning of the end of our work to upgrade this route for the benefit of all road users - with the benefits of significantly increased capacity to ease congestion, new road surfaces for a smoother drive or ride and toucan crossings for pedestrians and people on bikes. …
