NAT074 - (NS-Education-Criminal-Checks) HALIFAX. x-18s. Nova Scotia is moving to enforce stricter safety protocols for teachers and others employed by the education system. These measures include mandatory criminal record checks every five years. Education Minister Zach Churchill says amendments to the Education Act would also require annual declarations indicating that an individual has not been convicted of an offence. Churchill says the moves are in response to a recent series of assault charges involving educators. ("..as well.") (SOURCE:The Canadian Press)
