Metrolink Chiefs Issue Warning to Tram-Surfers

TRANSPORT bosses have issued a stark warning over the dangers of 'tram-surfing' - saying someone could end up dead.

It comes after figures revealed 63 incidents of the trend since June last year, which sees youths clinging on to moving trams travelling up to speeds of 55mph.

Transport for Greater Manchester said that some 'surfers' were reportedly as young as 11 years old.

As incidents of the 'reckless' behaviour continue to soar, Metrolink have released footage in a bid to drive home the potentially fatal consequences.

The footage documents the harrowing experience of one employee - who witnessed what happens when tram-surfing goes wrong.

Metrolink health and safety manager, Carole Mason, said: "I've been involved and been out as the incident officer on one occasion.

"A young male had been on the back of one of the trams and had lost grip and fallen off. …
