To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Allegheny County's Regional Asset District, every 25th visitor to the National Aviary on March 25 - Monday - will spin a prize wheel to win "experiences," gifts and discounts.

Experiences include close-up encounters with sloths, hand-feeding a flock of rainbow lorikeets and an "immersive experience" at Amazing Amazon presented by AAA Travel.

Go to www.aviary.org to see special events and offers on the 25th of each month. RAD funds come primarily from the county sales tax and support sports, arts and entertainment venues, including the Aviary on the city's North Side.

Wildlife baby show

Humane Animal Rescue is anticipating that a lot of orphaned and injured wildlife will soon be coming into the wildlife rehabilitation center in Verona. On April 6, noon-4 p.m., HAR will hold a show featuring some of the animals at the wildlife center, 6000 Verona Road, 15147.

A kickoff event will be held April 3 at Cadillac Ranch in Robinson, 1060 Settlers Ridge Center Drive, Pittsburgh, 15205. At the day-long "Dine to Donate" event, part of the cost of food and drink orders will benefit the shelter animals.

During the show April 6, HAR will also collect donations at four drop-off locations: Galleria of Mt. Lebanon; Wild Birds Unlimited in Upper St. Clair, Monroeville and Pine; and Patagonia in Shadyside. Go to www.humaneanimalrescue.org to see what kinds of donations are needed. The list includes paper towels, toilet paper, night crawlers, freeze-dried meal worms, Cheerios, eggs, hand soap, and canned peas, pears, peaches and carrots.

Pet first-aid class

Pet owners can learn how to deal with choking, heatstroke, hypothermia and other emergencies at a free first-aid class offered by Chartiers Custom Pet Cremation.

The class will be noon to 2 p.m. April 27 at the North Strabane Municipal Building in Washington County. …
