Pittsburgh Opera's Bohemian Nights

Article excerpt

When and where: March 18 at the Opera Headquarters, Strip District.

It was a night to remember for the fashionistas who arrived to be #SEEN at the Pittsburgh Opera's third annual fashion/music mash-up. This year, the theme was Bohemian Nights, inspired by the Opera's upcoming "La boheme," a tale of love, friendship and loss. The fashions from Downtown's Larrimor's showcased fresh floral patterns, dramatic gowns and whimsical men's suits. "We have more than what people think," said Tom Michael of Larrimor's. "We wanted to add some excitement." And exciting it was to see the models sashay in romantic spring-inspired attire, complete with dramatic floral headpieces courtesy of Studio Booth as the resident artists took to the stage to enthrall the crowd with dramatic musical moments from the production. But why opera? "I grew up with this music in my home, but I didn't really appreciate it until I was a little older," said Cindy Kerr, whose grandmother, Virginia Byerly Kerr, was one of five founding women of the Pittsburgh Opera. "I listen to this music to be closer to her, to be closer to my mother, to remind me that we are all connected." Added general director of the Opera, Christopher Hahn: "Opera is a beautiful art form that brings to life the emotions that we all experience, but sometimes can't quite articulate." #SEEN: Michele Fabrizi, Ron Booth, Nachum Golan and Steve Hough, Roseanne Wholey, Melanie Crockard, Aaron Valentic, Kira Krolicki, Brian Brummitt and Rhoda Neft.
