Q - I want to plant a bunch of edible flowers in my vegetable garden this year, but I am having trouble finding a trusted source. Can you suggest a good book that might be helpful as well as an online source?

A - Seeds for many varieties can be found for sale on seed racks at local botanical gardens, garden centers and independent nurseries. Baker Creek is an excellent mail order source of flower and vegetable seeds. Other seed vendors include Johnny's Selected Seeds, Hudson Valley Seed Co. and Select Seeds, among others.

If you wish to purchase live plants by mail, consider Annie's Annuals and Perennials in Oakland, Calif. Otherwise, seek assurances from local retail vendors that their otherwise edible flowers for sale have not been sprayed with pesticides.

Regarding resources, there seems to have been almost as many books written over the years on edible flowers as there are flowers that are edible. …
