Police in Edmonton say their response to a weapons complaint at a bar has turned into a homicide investigation.

Investigators located a deceased male inside the bar when they arrived early yesterday, and they say two other people sustained non-life-threatening injuries in relation to the shooting.

Police say they believe a male suspect approached the bar and discharged several rounds through the window and fled.

No arrests had been made yesterday and police are encouraging any witnesses to contact them. (The Canadian Press)



The leader of Alberta's United Conservative Party says many people in the province support secession from Canada, based on what he calls "a real tension that runs through the hearts of many Albertans."

Jason Kenney repeated during a campaign stop in Red Deer on Saturday an earlier pledge to hold a referendum on federal equalization payments if his party wins the provincial election on April 16th.

The party states in a news release that a recent poll found "a shocking 50 per cent of Albertans surveyed said they support secession from Canada."

Kenney says in the release that most Albertans are proud Canadians, but they will no longer tolerate the rest the country benefiting from the province's resources while trying to hold back its economy. (The Canadian Press)



Metis '60s Scoop Survivors were invited to share their stories and to state their vision for justice, healing, and restitution at engagement sessions in Winnipeg over the weekend.

Metis survivors were left out of a settlement the federal government announced a year ago that it would settle numerous lawsuits related the adoption practice.

The '60s Scoop removed thousands of Indigenous children from their families and communities in the 1960s.

The sessions are meant to help guide what people want to see in the reconciliation process. …
