(BC-Hostage-Shooting)

B-C's civilian police watchdog says it appears two people killed during a hostage taking situation in Surrey in March were shot by police.

Police said at the time that they entered a home following an overnight standoff and a confrontation with a barricaded man ended in an exchange of gunfire.

The man died at the scene while a woman who was found in the home was taken to hospital where she also later died.

The Independent Investigations Office says in a release that evidence gathered to date demonstrates that they both succumbed to injuries caused by shots fired from police and it is continuing its investigation to determine if police actions were lawful, proportionate and reasonable. (Dix-MRI-Strategy)

Health Minister Adrian Dix says a new strategy to boost specialized diagnostic exams has far exceeded its first year target.

The program that allows magnetic resonance imaging machines to operate around the clock has led to 233-thousand M-R-I's in the first year -- an increase of 44-thousand from the previous year.

He says that "dramatically exceeded" the initial target of 37-thousand scans.

Dix didn't have any information on how wait times were impacted, but preliminary data from Northern Health shows wait times for some scans dropped to 29 days from 57. (The Canadian Press)

(Police-Dog-Injuries)

The B-C Prosecution Service says no charges will be laid against a Prince George R-C-M-P officer after a suspect was seriously hurt by a police dog.

The service says the handler deployed the dog during a pursuit of the suspect in September 2015.

It says it's concluded the available evidence does not meet the standard for approval of any charges against the police officer. (The Canadian Press)
