Alberta is cutting the minimum wage for workers aged 13 to 17 to 13 dollars an hour, from 15 an hour, starting June 26th.

It's part of a bill introduced by the United Conservative government that, if passed, would also make changes to overtime, holiday pay and votes for union certification.

The 15-dollar rate, the highest in Canada, would remain in place for everyone else.

Premier Jason Kenney says the deal still gives a good wage to young Albertans compared to other provinces, while giving employers resources to hire more of them. (The Canadian Press)

The Alberta coroner's office is investigating the death of a woman found in a charitable donation bin.

Medicine Hat police say officers and emergency medical personnel found the unconscious 39-year-old woman trapped in the opening of the bin early yesterday morning.

Calls to remove or fix clothing donation bins intensified in January when a woman was found dead in a container in Toronto just a week after a man died after becoming trapped inside a clothing box in West Vancouver.

Toronto-area company RangeView Fabricating said at the time it would no longer construct the metal containers until it could come up with a safer design. (The Canadian Press)
