(Alta-Missing-Woman) (Sask note)

R-C-M-P in Saskatchewan who have been investigating the disappearance of a woman from Edmonton now say foul play is involved, and they're treating the case as a homicide.

Police had said last month they were concerned about 25-year-old Tiki Brook-Lyn Laverdiere, who was last seen in North Battleford on May 1st.

They say they've executed search warrants in a number of locations in North Battleford over the last few days and are reviewing what they found.

Police had said Laverdiere was in the North Battleford and Thunderchild First Nation areas to attend a funeral in late April. (The Canadian Press)

Alberta is bringing in legislation this fall to create a Crown corporation to help First Nations start up or invest in energy projects.

Premier Jason Kenney made the announcement after meeting with First Nations leaders yesterday, and says it will level the playing field for some First Nations that don't have deep pockets to invest in projects like the Trans-Mountain pipeline.

Treaty 6 Nations Grand Chief Wilton Littlechild says his group has heard concerns about whether it's possible to have sustainable development and promote respect for Mother Earth.

The Manitoba government says it has resumed discussions with First Nations about the transfer of ownership of northern airports.

The province says the intent is to establish a First Nations led Northern Airport Authority.

Indigenous and Northern Relations Minister Eileen Clarke says the scope of discussions have been expanded following the recent transfer of the Grace Lake Airport to Missinippi Airways, a First Nations-owned airline in Northern Manitoba.

Grand Chief Arlen Dumas says in a news release that the discussions are a good step toward acknowledging and supporting First Nations rights. …
