Kathy Burke embarks on a mission to find out what it really means to be a woman in a new TV show. She tells Kerri-Ann Roper what's in store

KATHY Burke doesn't seem the type to get starstruck.

After all, she's a hugely successful actress, director, comedian and writer.

But there is one person who'd leave her, in her own words, "dumbstruck" and that's former first lady Michelle Obama.

The subject of good female role models has cropped up in relation to Kathy's latest project, a three-part series for Channel 4 titled Kathy Burke: All Woman.

ON SMALL SCREEN Each programme explores a different subject, the first being beauty and image, with the other two looking at work and motherhood, and then sex and relationships.

Mrs Obama, she says, is someone she would consider a good role model.

"I just think she's an incredible person. I love her philosophies on life, her whole attitude, I think she's a great inspiration for young women.

"I think I'd just be dumbstruck if I ever did meet her, I do get quite in awe of people."

THe." The same could of course be said about Kathy herself.

Her varied roles over the years in Absolutely Fabulous, BBC sitcom Gimme, Gimme, Gimme and as a victim of domestic abuse in Gary Oldman's Nil By Mouth - have garnered her a legion of fans.

So what made the 55-year-old decide to say yes to a project like this one? "I thought, 'Well, that will be quite interesting, it's quite good when you get older to try new things."' In the first episode Kathy meets former Love Island contestant Megan Barton-Hanson, the glamour model and former stripper who starred on the ITV2 series last year.

Megan made headlines when a photograph showing her the way she looked prior to cosmetic surgery was circulated. In the episode, Kathy asks Megan why she had the work done and whether it's paid off.
