(Ont-Markets-Funding)

Ontario food and agri-product exporters are eligible to apply for a new funding program to assist them in accessing new markets.

The Market Access Initiative is cost-shared between the Ontario and federal governments to assist with diversification projects and is supported through the Canadian Agricultural Partnership.

Eligible projects will include activities such as developing plans to access new international or domestic markets and engaging in new marketing activities to access new markets.

To date, both the federal and Ontario governments have committed cost-share support to more than two-thousand projects through the partnership to help eligible farmers, processors, other businesses and sector organizations innovate and grow. (CKNX)

(Mba-Dairy-Fire)

Manitoba's Office of the Fire Commissioner could not determine a cause in last month's devastating fire at Pennwood Dairy northeast of Steinbach.

The blaze August 12th destroyed four barns and killed approximately 800 head of cattle.

A statement yesterday from the commissioner says due to the size and magnitude of the damage, the cause is listed as undetermined.

However, it there was no evidence to indicate anything suspicious about the origin of the fire.

Damage is estimated at 15-million dollars. (CHSM)

(Alta-Farm-Safety)

The Alberta's United Conservative government says it's now compiling the input from more than two dozen consultations it held on the repeal of the previous N-D-P government's farm safety legislation.

The government says it's working with Alberta Labour and Immigration on data analysis, policy options and the legislative package, saying it plans to introduce the Farm Freedom and Safety Act as part of fall session.

The previous government changed the Occupational Health and Safety Code to make farm and ranch workers subject to the same health and safety requirements as workers in other industries. …
