Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has only private meetings listed on his itinerary today in Ottawa, after acknowledging yesterday that he's still digesting all that Canadians told him in Monday's federal election.

He told an Ottawa news conference that Canadian voters clearly expect all party leaders to work together in the new Liberal minority Parliament, and to figure out a way forward that isn't as divisive and challenging as the 40-day election campaign was.

Trudeau said he has no plans to establish a formal coalition with any other parties.

He is expecting to gain opposition support for his first legislative priority -- a tax cut -- and will announce his cabinet on November 20th. (1)



Alberta Premier Jason Kenney warns cutbacks are coming in today's provincial budget in order to begin work to balance the books in four years.

He says he will be cutting overall program spending by nearly three per cent, but vows his United Conservative government will not reduce health and education funding.

Kenney insists front-line services will remain a priority in his government's first budget since defeating the N-D-P last spring.(1)



A steady stream of shocked locals stopped Wednesday outside the east-end Montreal house where two children and their father were found dead amid a violent crime scene in a case police are investigating as two murders and a suicide.

A woman phoned 9-1-1 just after 9 p-m Tuesday to report finding three people possibly dead inside a home -- a man, a seven-year-old boy and a five-year-old girl.

Quebec's coroner's office identified the father as 40-year-old Jonathan Pomares, and investigators confirm he was the father of the two young victims.

Investigators had to track down family abroad to advise them of the deaths.

Neighbours said the family came to Canada from France in recent years. …
