(Mba-Child-Attacked)

A three-year-old boy in Winnipeg who was stabbed multiple times has died after being taken off life support.

Hunter Haze Straight-Smith's family gathered around his hospital bed for the child's last moments yesterday at Health Sciences Centre.

Family friend Darryl Contois was in the room and says Hunter breathed on his own for a short time, but the breaths eventually faded while his mother and father stayed beside him.

A 33-year-old man who was in an on-again, off-again relationship with Hunter's mother has been charged with attempted murder as well as assault in an earlier altercation involving the woman. (The Canadian Press)

Meili says the New Democrats plan is to ensure that public dollars go into local companies who hire local workers.

The province is only a year away from its next general election, and Meili told delegates the N-D-P Opposition is an underdog that's been written off before, but punches above its weight.

He also pledged an N-D-P government would cap class sizes, saying if elected there won't be a single class from Kindergarten to Grade 3 with more than 24 children. (The Canadian Press)
