Lip Filler Disaster Led to Hospital Treatment

A TEENAGER claims she needed hospital care after a lip filler disaster left her with 'deformed, sausage lips' that oozed green pus.

Lauren Winstanley had never liked her 'small' lips and was keen to have a fuller pout so booked an appointment to get some filler at a beauty salon.

Excited at the prospect of getting her dream look, the 18-year-old carer paid £170 to go under the needle last month.

But Lauren's excitement soon turned to horror when her lips rapidly ballooned to triple their size and she ended up being rushed to hospital.

A member of The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) claims giving treatments in a non-clinical environment is 'hazardous even in the expert hand.' .

Lauren, from Wigan, said: "They started swelling straight away. When I looked in the mirror at them I was shocked because I'd never seen myself with bigger lips.

"The beautician said the swelling would go down and I listened to her and thought 'fair enough.' .' They were hurting ahead of my night shift starting and over the next few hours they grew bigger and bigger and ended up triple the size they should be.

"I went to sleep but woke up in more pain and messaged the beautician and said I was worried about them."

Lauren was assured that swelling was normal, that it may be a non-serious allergic reaction and to take antihistamines. A day after having the fillers, worried Lauren went to the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary in Wigan, where she says staff assessed her lips and sent her home with a course of antibiotics and painkillers.
