Unifor Local 594 president Kevin Bittman says he hasn't seen truck drivers being held up by striking workers at the Co-op refinery in Regina, but says the union interprets last week's court order as meaning pickets have ten minutes to communicate with drivers.

Justice Janet McMurtry ruled on December 24th that the union could stop vehicles trying to get in and out of the refinery for a maximum of ten minutes to provide information on the dispute, or until the driver declines the information.

At that point, McMurtry's ruling says, drivers should be allowed to "proceed without interference."

Videos sent to Regina media outlets appear to show drivers who decline the information being held up for a full ten minutes. CJME, The Canadian Press)



Two Winnipeg firefighters and a police officer were sent to hospital following assaults that happened New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.

In one case on Tuesday night, police say they responded to a report of a family incident where a man allegedly threatened to kill a woman, and then damaged a house as he fled.

Police say that when two officers caught up with him, he allegedly resisted arrest and injured both officers, with one requiring treatment in hospital.

Two firefighters, meanwhile, required treatment in hospital after responding to an alarm in an apartment building and encountering a group of people in a hallway. (The Canadian Press)



Police in Saskatchewan are investigating the death of an inmate who was found unresponsive in his cell last Friday.

The Prince Albert Police Service Criminal Investigation Division and the coroner's office are both investigating the death of the 31-year-old man at a provincial correctional centre in Prince Albert.

When the inmate was found, the man was transported to Victoria Hospital by ambulance, where he was pronounced dead. …
