My earliest memory of Manchester is...

My earliest memory of Manchester as young boy could be seeing Strangeways for the first time (I had a nightmare that night, couldn't believe people lived in such a place). Or it could be my mum showing me the secret hole in the gate of the original Coronation Street set at the back of Granada TV, and Jean Alexander (Hilda Ogden) coming out and saying hello in a posh voice.

My favourite place to eat in Manchester is...

Alif on Cheetham Hill Road. The food is great, it's cheap and the other diners are a real cross section of Manchester/Salford life. I also love a Rice 'n' Three in the Northern Quarter.

My favourite Manchester bar or nightclub is...

My favourite bar is a pub, The Millstone. I've had some tremendous nights in there before heading out at dawn the next day.

Been told some life stories in there that have made me actually cry. It's a wonderful Manchester institution. I also love the Apsley Cottage behind the Apollo. And, for its sheer weirdness, The White Hotel in Salford. I staged one of the NQL Festival events there last year and I loved its strange situation and atmosphere.

My favourite place to shop in Manchester is...

Fred Aldous. I always feel inspired when I've been in. Enjoy having a picture done in the old photo booth.

The last gig or show I saw in Manchester was...

Steve Mason at YES towards the end of last year. …
