Ryan White became a hero to many and a model of courage and inspiration to young AIDS patients during his valiant struggle against the disease which finally took his life in April 1990. White, a hemophiliac, contracted AIDS from a blood transfusion and was subsequently barred from attending school in Kokomo, Indiana. He and his mother, Jeanne, sued the school system and won.
