PANORAMA OF WESTERN TRAVEL
(Designed for Exhibition in England)
[The panorama fever continued to flourish for decades— Mark Twain was to find humorous capital in a traveling panoramist as late as the 1800's (Life on the Mississippi, Chapter 59). Certainly, the vogue for such moving pictures was still strong a decade after the production of the five great panoramas of the Mississippi (1847-49), if we are to judge from these sketches made by a cartoonist named Arrowsmith for the December, 1858 issue of Harper's Magazine (XVIII, 141‐ 42).]
