Principle No. 4 Collect—systematically and routinely—credible evidence which documents your achievements.

If reporting about good things being achieved is a cause for such a celebra-tion, it is easy to include in the report a comment about the aspects of the stage performance where you would like to improve, where to finetune the script, or to recruit another lead actor, or to rework the scenario in a way which will increase the applause and make it more spontaneous. Accountability is the process you adopt in order to report improvements, and especially those which you have deliberately planned to make and enunciated publicly. Accountability means that you are able to give an account of yourself. But who is listening; who wants to hear? Whom must the school tell about its performance, and especially its success? Four sets of people come readily to mind as audiences.
• First, whatever their age, the school needs to tell its students some things, systematically and regularly, for they are the client-learners, and the encouragement of learning is the task which transcends everything else the school does. The school needs to arrange its affairs (and usually does) in such a way that the students being served by the school receive constant, understand-able, helpful feedback about how well they are progressing. There may be other things about the life and health of the school on which the students need feedback also.
