S. Mitra Kalita is a staff writer for the Washington Post covering education. She has received numerous journalism awards, and previously worked for Newsday and the Associated Press. The daughter of immigrants from the Indian state of Assam, Mitra has lived in Washington, New York City, Long Island, Puerto Rico, and the suburbs of New Jersey. She has written extensively about immigration and the South Asian diaspora and serves as president of the South Asian Journalists Association. This is her first book.
