This book is the product of a unique collaboration of many individuals who contributed freely of their time, talent, and energy. Our thanks go first to Edward I. Koch, mayor of the city of New York, who established the task force from which the New York Vietnam Veterans Memorial Commission was born. Without his interest and initiative the commission, the memorial, and this book would not have been created.
