Conventional Features of Research Reports

Typing/Word Processing/Paper Size

PBE reports should always be typewritten or word processed leading to good quality print output. Italic script may be used judiciously for citations and the emphasis of single words. Font size should be adopted to foster readability, for example, Times New Roman 10 pt. Poor quality dot matrix print output should not be used in final reports. The report should be typewritten/printed on one side of the paper in not less than one-and-a-half line spacing on international size A4 (297 mm×210 mm) paper of good quality. Three copies should be produced. The ‘top copy’ should be bound in a moderately permanent form such as a ring binder or stiff cover. This is the submission copy and the cover should state clearly the title of the work and the name and affiliation of the author. The author should always retain a copy of the work, and the third copy should be available for assessment, independent review, or for use by interested third parties.


Margins

Inside or left-hand margins should be at least 3 cm wide. The top, bottom and outside or right-hand margins should be at least 2 cm wide.


Order of contents

Title page The title page or imprint page of the PBE should show: the title of the work in full; the full name and degrees of the author/candidate; the name of his or her department in which the work was submitted; the host university or institution; the degree/certificate/diploma for which the PBE is submitted; the date of submission.

Signed declaration Most public institutions require a signed declaration from the author to guarantee authenticity of the work, to protect copyright
