Sexual Behavior and HIV/AIDS in Europe: Comparisons of National Surveys

of the world has more to do with the presence of particular HIV subtypes (high relative prevalences of subtype C in Africa, subtype E in Asia and subtype B in Europe) than with sexual practices. However, studies of sexual behaviour in temporally and spatially representative samples of the population are a prerequisite for evaluating the influences of other factors. Further studies of behaviour in Europe that have common aims and standardized protocols are thus needed.
