Betty Jane Wagner does a great service for drama education by clearly delineating what drama actually teaches.

Wilhelni, J. D., & Edmiston, B. (1998).Imagining to learn: Inquiry, ethics, and integration through drama. Portsmouth, NH: Heinemann. This is a powerful book on drama that balances profound theory with practical plans for how to do drama with children and young teens. Jeff and Brian's work clearly demonstrates that when children take on different discourses, they learn to create and critique story as well as very real worlds.
