Head Quarters, Army of the Ten
Pittsburg, April 28th 1862
CAPT. A. C. KEMPER
A. A. GEN. DEPT. OF THE MISS.
Herewith I forward the report of Maj. Gen. McClernand of the 1st Division which closes the reports of the Army of the Tennessee in the Battle of Shiloh on the 6th & 7th inst.
The report is faulty in two particulars; first, in giving the idea that Gen. Prentiss was surprised and taken prisoner in the morning, wheras he was not taken until a late hour in the afternoon[, ] and, second, in reporting too much of other Divisions remote fromthe 1st and from which reports are received conflicting somewhat from his statements.
