About the authors

Robyn Zevenbergen is an Associate Professor at Griffith University where she coordinates and teaches primary school mathematics education and action research. She is Deputy Director of the Centre for Learning Research. Robyn has researched in primary and secondary schools with her research interests focused on equity and how practices within mathematics teaching are implicated in the observed outcomes of schooling. Her particular research interests focus on students from low socioeconomic backgrounds, indigenous students and students living in rural and remote areas for which she has received a number of Australian Research Council grants. Most of the research she conducts is based in classrooms and she has travelled extensively to study mathematics classrooms within and beyond Australia. She has worked at state and federal levels in developing curriculum and policy documents to inform school mathematics. She has published widely and been an invited keynote speaker at a range of conferences and from early years through to tertiary. She is invited to work with schools in school-based projects on reforming school practices— both in mathematics and in overall school reform.

Shelley Dole is a Senior Lecturer in Education and coordinator of mathematics and numeracy curriculum programs within the School of Education at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT). Over the 20 years she has been in education, she has taught in primary, secondary and tertiary teaching institutions in the Northern Territory, Queensland,
