(23:2) Sarah died in Kiryat Arba which is Hebron in the land of Canaan; and Abraham came to eulogize Sarah and to weep for her.
in Kiryat Arba Literally, in the “City of Four.” Why is Hebron called City of Four? R. Yitzchak said: Because of the four couples that are buried there: Adam and Eve; Abraham and Sarah; Isaac and Rebeccah; Jacob and Leah (Eruvin 53a).
NOTE: Rachel died on the way back from Haran and was buried in Bethlehem (Genesis 35:19).
(24:1) Abraham was old, well advanced in years, and God had blessed Abraham with everything.
Abraham was old Until Abraham, there were no signs of old age. In fact, Abraham and Isaac looked exactly alike. So Abraham prayed for marks of old age; and old age came into existence, as it says “Abraham was old, well advanced in years” (Bava Metzia 87a).
NOTE: The redundancy of this phrase tells us that Abraham was old and had the marks of old age.
