To travel hopefully is a better thing than to arrive, and the true success is to labour.
R. L. Stevenson
The stimulus for this chapter came several years ago when I had the pleasure of speaking in the People's Republic of China (P. R.C.) to a group of Chinese students, most of whom were from a college of business and economics. My training is in the field of comparative literature, and I was in China at the request of Hebei University. They needed someone to conduct graduatelevel classes for those students who were to teach (and who were in many cases already teaching) English at the middle-school level and above.
