dard but dated treatment of Montesquieu and English political tradition in France. Paul Spurlin's presentation of Montesquieu in America (1940) is from the point of view of literary history rather than political science. Paola Berselli Ambri (1960) focuses particularly on Montesquieu's reputation at the Vatican between 1748 and the French Revolution. Cecil Patrick Courtney (1963) offers a concise presentation with emphasis on the British statesman Edmund Burke. Fritz Schalk's 1964 article is an interesting consideration of Montesquieu's contributions to French political thought alongside those of Rousseau and Jean Bodin. Other critics who discuss the multicultural aspects of Montesquieu's work include Jeannette Geffriaud Rosso (1977) and Alain Grosrichard (1979).
