Issue raised

The issue raised in this case is how to encourage and support staff to engage with inter-professional teaching and learning.


Background

This case takes place at Sheffield Hallam University. A successful bid to HEFCE's Fund for the Development of Teaching and Learning (FDTL) supported the creation of an inter-professional curriculum and more collaborative working in the recently merged School of Environment and Development-including Planning, Architecture, Housing, Building and Surveying. The project, 'Better Together', aimed to stimulate the development of an inter-professional curriculum in the built environment. It had a national focus which enabled the school to benefit from expertise and experiences elsewhere. As well as Sheffield Hallam University, the project involved Oxford Brookes and Kingston universities.

The case reporter is the full-time project manager. Her team includes a part-time researcher and three other 0.2 fte academic staff, and there is a budget of £250,000 over three years.
