Mathias Prideaux (1622-46) was educated at Exeter College, Oxford. The book from which the extract below is taken was published posthumously, probably edited by his father John Prideaux, Bishop of Worcester.

The wandering Knights, Spencers Fairy Queene, Sir Philip Sidnies Arcadia, with other pieces of like straine, may passe with singular Commendations for morall Romances, being nothing else but Poeticall Ethicks, that with apt contrivanse, and winning Language, informe Morality.
