Robert Elgie is Professor of Government and International Studies at Dublin City University, Ireland. He has published widely in the field of French politics and comparative politics. His most recent publications include French Politics: Debates and Controversies with Steven Griggs (Routledge, 2000), The Changing French Political System as editor (Frank Cass, 2000) and Semi-Presidentialism in Europe as editor (Oxford University Press, 1999). He is also the author of Political Leadership in Liberal Democracies (Macmillan, 1995).
John Fitzmaurice is of British and Danish origin. He is Head of Unit in the Secretariat General of the European Commission, Professor at the Institute of European Studies of the Université Libre de Bruxelles. He is the author of Politics in Denmark (Hurst, 1981). His research interests cover small democracies, party systems, and elections in western and central Europe.
Joseph L. Klesner is Professor of Political Science at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio, USA. His research has focused on electoral reform, party system development and electoral politics in Mexico. He has published in Comparative Politics, Electoral Studies and Mexican Studies/Estudios Mexicanos.
Paul Mitchell is Lecturer at the London School of Economics and Political Science. He has published widely on the politics of coalitions in Ireland. He has published in journals such as the European Journal of Political Research and he was the co-editor of How Ireland Voted 1997 (Westview, 1999).
Heikki Paloheimo is Professor of Political Science at the University of Turku, Finland. He is the author of Politiikka, talous ja yhteiskunnan muutos (Politics, Economics and Social Change, Annales Universitatis Turkuensis, 1981), Governments in Democratic Capitalist States (University of Turku, 1984), Tasavallan presidentit: Koivisto (a biography of President Koivisto, Weilin & Göös, 1994), and is the editor of both Politics in the Era of Corporatism and Planning (Finnish Political Science Association, 1984) and Coping with the Economic Crisis (Sage, 1987) with Hans Keman and Paul Whiteley.
