Its Basic Flow and
All human communication falls into two basic categories: verbal and nonverbal. Each of these breaks down into many subcategories, which are illustrated as follows:
Verbal communication includes all messages using words, whether oral or written. It can be either formal or informal. Formal communication occurs in management information and directives about policies and procedures. These can be transmitted by written document channels or orally at meetings and conferences. Informal communication, what is known as the grapevine, is primarily an oral method of transmitting information. It occurs at the water cooler, across the table at lunch, in the carpool, and in the gym.
