CAMPAIGN FOR KIDS' TV

A project developed by the Center for Media Education (CME), with the goal of improving children's television, educating the public about the effects of TV, and empowering parents and educators to deal more effectively with the media. Specific objectives include the following: 1) build partnerships with child advocacy, education, and health organizations to work together to improve the media environment for children; 2) ensure that children are protected from exploitive media industry practices by acting as a consumer advocate in Washington, DC; 3) teach the public about the role of television and emerging media technologies in children's lives; 4) train parents and children to be critical viewers and consumers of media; 5) encourage media institutions to better serve the needs of all children, including children at risk; 6) raise key policy questions, conduct research, and reach out to the press; 7) track media industry and policy developments that affect children; 8) voice the concerns of parents and educators about violence in children's programming and the need for educational alternatives; and 9) promote innovative community outreach projects.
