GARY MERRILL earned BS, MS, and PhD degrees in physiology between 1967 and 1975. He spent one year as a postdoctoral fellow in physiology at the LSU Medical Center in New Orleans between 1975 and 1976. His entire academic career has been spent teaching and doing research in physiology at Rutgers University in New Brunswick/Piscataway, New Jersey. His teaching has been at the undergraduate and graduate levels. His research has focused on the mammalian cardiovascular system. Dr. Merrill's hobbies include hiking and camping with his family and friends, as well as yard work, car care, and other physical activity.
