About the community youth case study

The community youth agency case study, the third case study presented in the
series, is drawn from the community sector. Here, a researcher is engaged to audit
a community agency that is devoted to youth support. She comes as an expert from
outside the agency and works individually to assess the performance of the agency.
This project was intended to be a discrete evaluative project designed to produce
answers about the efficacy of the agency. Research practice once again is highly
consultative in this case study and this, in part, is related to the type of organis-
ational structure in which the research occurs. We want you to pay attention to
these structures as you read through the case study. The community sector, like the
university community in the internal change case study, typically contains flatter
hierarchies with shared power in decision-making. As a heterogeneous organisation,
it must draw together people of diverse talents, skills and inclinations to advance
community-oriented goals. The individual's work, rather than that of the group, is
