Wilma Ayris is a district nursing sister with over 20 years' experience, much of this with the night nursing service in North Tyneside. She recently completed a Masters degree in Advanced Nursing Practice at the University of Northumbria, during which she developed a project to promote the use of advanced clinical assessment by district nurses out of hours, in order to provide a more responsive service to patients in the area.

Wendy started her nursing career in 1982 in Dundee, Scotland. She has worked in the primary care setting for the last 12 years. A health visitor by background, she has held several clinical leadership posts, including clinical leader of an integrated community nursing team, and project manager for nurse prescribing at a regional level. Wendy has wide experience of practice development, notably in the areas of primary/ secondary care interface, integrated working and user perspectives. She has a particular interest in collaborative working as a way of dismantling the barriers between professional groups.
